Intent
At Saxilby Church of England Primary School, our intention for Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) is to ensure that all children receive a high-quality and ambitious education regardless of need or disability.
Our mission statement Act, Believe, Succeed summarises our drive, commitment and belief that all children, given the opportunity and provision, can succeed in our positive and purposeful school community. All children will learn through the lense of our four pillars hope, dignity, community and wisdom and these are woven through the planning and delivery of learning for our send children.
Through our high quality planning, teaching and provision we:
- Pride ourselves on early identification and intervention for SEND to ensure that progress and opportunities are maximized.
- Ensure that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is differentiated to enable children to understand the relevance and purpose of learning.
- Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored and adapted to the individual needs of all pupils.
- Develop children’s independence, life skills and their personal identity through upholding our Christian values.
- Regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND, using bespoke assessment dependent of area of need.
Implementation
At Saxilby Church of England Primary School, every teacher is a teacher of SEND. As such, inclusion is a thread that runs through every area of the school enhanced by collaboration between senior leaders, teachers, support staff, external agencies, parents and most importantly, the child.
At Saxilby Church of England Primary School, pupils with SEND will:
- Be included in all aspects of the school day and have the same opportunities as children with no additional needs.
- Be provided with quality first teaching, differentiated to their needs.
- Be respected and their contributions valued and acknowledged.
At Saxilby Church of England Primary School, pupils with SEND may:
- Have specific 1:1 or small group intervention to support their progress within the curriculum.
- Take part in social and emotional support interventions such as ELSA, individual counselling and emotional literacy programs.
- Have additional support from our Family Support worker
- Receive additional support with their speech and language development through our school based program.
- Attend SEND Music/Singing/PE sessions, taught by our specialist teachers, allowing children extra

- Children with SEND make good progress at Saxilby from their starting points due to the use of resources, collaborative working with outside agencies and small group intervention which meets the needs of the pupils.
- On leaving Saxilby Church of England Primary School children with SEND will be confident, feel valued and assured of the positive contributions that they are able to make to the community.
